In tonight's match, we didn't even get as many goals as could have been if the attackers from both teams had been in better form. Bayern launched a fierce attack from the first minute, and chances piled up in front of Real's goal. The best opportunity was missed by Dayot Upamecano, who failed to score from three meters out as Alvaro Carreras blocked him on the goal line.
Bayern continued to attack, with chances coming one after another, and Michael Olise was particularly unstoppable, taking two excellent long-range shots. On the other side, Vinicius Junior responded with a shot saved by Manuel Neuer.
Bayern took the lead after a fantastic play in the 41st minute. Harry Kane pushed the ball to Serge Gnabry, who delivered a brilliant assist into space for Luis Diaz, giving Bayern a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 for the visitors from Munich as they went into halftime, and in the first attack of the second half, we saw the second goal. Olise laid the ball back to Kane from about 20 meters out, and the England captain scored brilliantly from distance, as if it were a penalty.
The second conceded goal only awakened Real, who created several excellent chances. The Madrid side came close to reducing the deficit in the 68th minute when Kylian Mbappe shot from the edge of the box, but Manuel Neuer tipped the ball into the corner with his fingertips.
Mbappe restored hope for Real in the 74th minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold played him through, and he struck the crossbar before the ball found the back of Bayern's net. The ball barely crossed the goal line, but it was enough for goal-line technology to alert referee Michael Oliver.
That goal truly revived Real's hope that they could once again stage a comeback in a Champions League two-legged tie and advance further.
Bayern could have finished off Real tonight, but the Madrid side rose from the depths once more. However, to secure a spot in the Champions League semifinals, they will need to deliver a performance beyond their capabilities in Munich, where they will have a goal deficit to overcome.
The return leg will take place in just eight days. Bayern will host Real in Munich next Wednesday, defending a 2-1 advantage.
Result and scorers: Real Madrid - Bayern Munich 1:2 (Mbappe 74' / Diaz 41', Kane 46')
