The Artemis II mission crew has written a new page in the history of spaceflight after the astronauts became the farthest humans from Earth in the history of mankind.

Artemis II makes history: Astronauts travel farther from Earth than humans have ever reached before.

The mission has officially surpassed the record set by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970, when astronauts were 248,655 miles (400,171 kilometers) away from Earth. The Artemis II crew has now become the farthest human crew ever.

According to NASA data, the Orion spacecraft will reach a maximum distance from Earth of about 252,760 miles, with that moment expected around 7:07 PM Eastern Time (ET).

This mission represents the first astronaut flight to the Moon in over 50 years and is a crucial step in the program to return humans to the Moon.
