Guthrie was forced to take time off work due to the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who went missing on February 1st. After highlighting the main news at the start of the program, Savannah took a moment to comment on the weather. "A beautiful sunrise. Welcome to the Today show, we're so happy you're starting the week with us, and it's nice to be home," she said. Her colleague Melvin responded, "Yes, we're glad you're back home." Guthrie had previously returned to the studio to visit her colleagues after coming back to New York. She had spent weeks earlier in Arizona with her family following her mother's disappearance. "Savannah Guthrie arrived at the studio this morning to be with her colleagues from the Today show and thank them," a show spokesperson said earlier. Savannah also explained her decision to return to work. "I can't not come back because this is my family. I think it's part of my purpose now. I want to laugh, and when I do, it will be real. My joy will be my protest and response. When it's not joyful, I'll say so. I'm so grateful to have people at work whom I consider family. When times are tough, you want to be with your family. I don't know if I can work, but I'll try, even though I know I won't be the same," she said. The search for her mother Nancy is now in its tenth week, and no suspects have been identified in the case. Savannah stated that the family is offering a reward of up to one million dollars for any information leading to Nancy's recovery.
