An accidental fire that started from the back door of a supermarket endangered the lives of building residents and burned 71 apartments, the investment of a lifetime. Engineers say the fault lies with the facade, as according to technical regulations, the building should not be clad with flammable materials, but with the quality of a material that resists the high temperatures of flames. Although the fire was extinguished, the feeling of fear for residents who experienced the terror of the flames has not yet subsided. For Glenda Beqon, a resident of this building, says that in those moments, only the life of her 3-year-old son mattered.
"I was at home with my 3-and-a-half-year-old son, there was no alarm and no sign. There was no panic, but it's good that I went out barefoot with the child in my arms, as we went down the stairs, pieces were falling from above. As I said, it was a horror," says Glenda Beqo, one of the building's residents.
The flames of the fire destroyed the effort of a lifetime.
"I have an apartment here, I bought it in 2022 and when I bought it, it was 900 euros per square meter, and it cost 100 thousand euros. This is the investment of a lifetime, plus I have a loan that I still have to repay," she said.
The fire brought consequences for the entire complex; for two days, electricity and water have been cut off in this building. Bedri Allkja in this complex not only has his home but also his business; he says that OSHEE and UKT should intervene as soon as possible.
"Fortunately, we survived; the flames came up to the neighboring apartment. I bought it 4 years ago for 140 thousand euros. We are waiting for OSHEE to bring technicians; unfortunately, they have not been seen so far. This situation should not continue indefinitely," expressed another resident.
The 71 families affected by the fire are awaiting a solution that will ensure their housing. The door of relatives cannot remain open for long.
"What will happen with our housing, as we want to know if we will receive a rental bonus or something. We cannot stay indefinitely with relatives; we cannot live like this," added the citizen.
Residents hope that the company Arlis will rebuild their homes from scratch, but this time with a facade that keeps the flames of fire away.
