Italy's Court of Cassation has sentenced 41-year-old Albanian Elona Kalesha to 30 years in prison, found guilty of the double murder of Teuta and Shpëtim Pasho, the parents of her partner at the time. The serious incident dates back to November 2015, when the couple mysteriously disappeared, just one day before the release from prison of their son, Taulant Pasho, who was being held in the Sollicciano penitentiary on drug-related charges. The victims' bodies were discovered five years later, dismembered and hidden in four suitcases, abandoned in a rural area between the Fi-Pi-Li road and Sollicciano prison, shocking public opinion in Italy and Albania. According to investigations, the perpetrator is suspected to have acted for several motives. One of them is linked to financial benefits, as the victims were carrying a significant sum of money, suspected to have come from their son's illegal activities. The prosecution claims that part of this money was used by Kalesha to repay a 20,000 euro debt to her partner. Another investigative lead relates to personal motives. It is suspected that the parents had discovered Kalesha's pregnancy, which she had terminated a few days before the crime at Careggi hospital, which may have led to the extreme act.
