Gjon Shkambi, the uncle of Elvis Shkambi—the individual who fatally shot Appeal Court Judge Astrit Kalaja with a firearm in the courtroom—has returned to the same court to seek release from prison. His request to replace the "arrest in prison" measure with a milder security measure was rejected this week by the black-robed judges of the Appeal Court. Gjon Shkambi is accused of "murder under qualifying circumstances," committed in collaboration as an instigator in the incident of October 6, 2025, at the Appeal Court. He was alongside his nephew, Elvis Shkambi, who, after a property ruling unfavorable to them, opened fire in the courtroom, killing Judge Astrit Kalaja and injuring the opposing parties in the case, Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj. For the same incident, Elvis Shkambi is also being investigated under the "arrest in prison" measure.
