The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has been granted Albanian citizenship and an Albanian passport, following a special decree signed by the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj. According to the decree, Albanian citizenship has been granted based on the law in force and takes effect immediately, while it will also be published in the Official Gazette. The document states that the decision was made at Adams' own request. He had previously visited Albania in October 2025, where he also met with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
