A 48-year-old man was handcuffed by police today in Tirana, accused of trafficking firearms. The arrested individual is Ligor Mehmeti, who was stopped in the Tufina area while traveling in a vehicle where the weapons were hidden.

Mehmeti has long been suspected of involvement in arms trafficking, as 3 firearmsโ€”2 pistols and 1 tactical combat weaponโ€”were found in his car. The seized weapons were intended to be sold for 1,500 euros each, while the tactical weapon was priced at 8,000 euros.

A case of attempted sale of firearms has been struck. Three firearms (2 pistols and 1 tactical combat weapon) were seized. The 48-year-old who possessed the weapons for sale was arrested. He was caught red-handed in Tufina while transporting the weapons in his vehicle.

Based on information obtained regarding a case of possession of firearms for sale, the services of Police Station No. 4 finalized the operation codenamed "Barriera." During the operation, citizen L. M., 48 years old, residing in Tirana, was handcuffed. This citizen was stopped by police services on "Myslym Keta" street, Tufina, while moving in his vehicle. During checks of the vehicle, 3 firearms (2 pistols and 1 tactical combat weapon) were found, which this citizen is suspected of possessing for sale in the "Fresku" and "Tufina" areas.

The firearms were seized as material evidence, along with 3 ammunition magazines, the vehicle driven by citizen L. M., and his mobile phone. Under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, investigations continue to bring other citizens who may be involved in this case to criminal responsibility.

The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for further action.
