The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has appealed to the Constitutional Court the decision of the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime to send his case to trial. In the submitted request, Veliaj seeks the annulment of the decision made in the preliminary session of February 9, arguing that the process has been in serious violation of procedural rules. He claims that he has been denied the right to a full review of the file, which, according to him, has undermined the standards of a regular legal process. Furthermore, the mayor requests that all judicial sessions held so far be declared invalid, questioning the entire procedure followed by the GJKKO. The case is expected to be reviewed by the Constitutional Court, which will decide on the validity of the claims raised and whether constitutional rights have been violated during the process.
