The Iranian military has threatened to shut down maritime transport operations in the Red Sea, as well as the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, if the U.S. continues its blockade of Iranian ports. Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the joint command of Iran's armed forces, described the blockade as "illegal" and said that if it continues, it would be considered a violation of the ceasefire agreement. Abdollahi stated that Iran "would not allow any exports or imports to continue in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Red Sea under such conditions," reported Tasnim, the state news agency. Iran is not bordered by the Red Sea but has influence in the region through regional allies, namely the Houthis in Yemen, who have previously targeted ships there. The U.S. Central Command said on Wednesday that the United States' blockade of Iranian ports has been "fully implemented" and has halted the majority of Tehran's economic activity in just a day and a half. However, some commercial traffic is still passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as the blockade does not apply to the strait itself.
