The Durrës Police have clarified the circumstances of the death of a 59-year-old man, an incident initially suspected to have occurred due to natural causes.
According to the official announcement, following intensive investigative actions, it was determined that citizen S.M., 59 years old, did not lose his life as a result of cardiac arrest, as initially reported, but was fatally struck by a 42-year-old, who has been arrested by the police.
A 42-year-old has been handcuffed, suspected as the perpetrator of manslaughter. The 42-year-old, after a conflict over trivial reasons, punched the 59-year-old, who lost consciousness upon falling onto the asphalt, where he subsequently passed away.
Specialists for investigating crimes against persons at the Durrës Local Police Directorate, based on reasonable suspicions raised after the death of the 59-year-old citizen S.M., where it was initially suspected he died due to cardiac arrest, continued actions to clarify the cause of death. After intensive investigative actions were carried out, it resulted that citizen G.K., 42 years old, on April 13, 2026, in neighborhood no. 18, Durrës, had a conflict over trivial reasons with citizen S.M., 59 years old, and then punched him, as a result of which citizen S.M. lost consciousness, fell onto the asphalt, and subsequently lost his life.
Initially, it was reported that this citizen had died due to natural causes, but after suspicions were raised and from the entirety of investigative actions carried out under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, it resulted that this citizen did not lose his life as a consequence of cardiac arrest. Following the actions, citizen G.K., 42 years old, resident in neighborhood no. 18, Durrës, was detained for the criminal offense "Manslaughter."
Under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, work continues for the full legal documentation of the case. The procedural materials were referred to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office for further actions.
