One of Finland's wealthiest businessmen was ordered to pay an astronomical fine of 120,000 euros after being caught speeding by 59 km/h in a zone where the limit was only 30 km/h. The 79-year-old Anders Wiklöf, founder of Wiklöf Holding AB with an annual turnover of over 350 million euros, fell victim to Finland's strict law. In Finland, speeding violations exceeding 20 km/h are considered serious, and the size of the fine is directly linked to the offender's income. Thus, Wiklöf's careless driving in the Åland archipelago turned into an extremely costly matter. Despite the size of the fine, the businessman did not attempt to contest the summons in court. Speaking to the Finnish newspaper "Nya Åland," he admitted his guilt. "If I made a mistake, I made a mistake, I accept it and there is nothing more to say," he stated. In fact, he considers himself lucky to have kept his driving license, as in cases of more severe violations, the license is revoked immediately.
