A tragic incident has shaken New York City, where a 7-month-old baby lost her life after being struck in the head by a stray bullet while in her stroller.
The incident occurred in the Brooklyn neighborhood, inside a grocery store, where the mother, Liana Charles Moore, was with her partner and two young children. Initially, the family thought the noises were fireworks, but the situation turned dramatic when bullets shattered the store's windows.
The mother realized the horror when she saw her daughter, Kaori, shot in the head. She burst into screams and tried to hold her, but the wounds proved fatal. The infant was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.
The event became even more dramatic after the victim's two-year-old brother was slightly injured by a bullet and was also transported to the hospital for treatment.
In a statement to the New York Post, the devastated mother recounted the moments of terror, revealing that she had first hugged her son and then saw her daughter lifeless. She said the little one had recently started saying the word "mama" and described her as an innocent child who did not deserve such a fate.
Police have arrested one person in connection with the shootings and are searching for a second. Authorities have also released security camera footage, where the suspects are believed to have been involved in a motorcycle accident just a few blocks away from the scene of the incident, after colliding with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
The event has sparked strong reactions in public opinion, while the victim's mother seeks justice for her daughter, emphasizing that her family happened to be in the wrong place at the most tragic moment.
