The Artemis II astronauts also had the opportunity to witness a solar eclipse. Victor Glover described the sight as "unbelievable," providing details about the Sun's corona as well.

"This continues to be unbelievable. The Sun has passed behind the Moon, and the corona is still visible, it's bright, creating a kind of halo almost all around the Moon. But when it reaches from Earth's side, it's Earth's illumination that is already visible.

I mean, almost a few seconds after the Sun disappeared behind the Moon, you could see Earth's illumination. Earth is so bright out there, and the Moon just stands in front of us. This dark sphere in front of us now, not complete darkness, but gray that blends and fades into darkness. We can see stars and planets behind it.

Christina is at window one, Reid is at window two with the long lens, and Jeremy is describing it from window three. It's a truly impressive sight.

You can still see the horizon with a stronger glow... where the Sun set on that side of the Moon. And Earth's illumination is very distinct and creates quite a stunning visual illusion."
