At least six people have lost their lives after a powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, shaking parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 175 kilometers. Tremors were felt in the Afghan capital Kabul. The quake was also felt in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and in the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan. Tremors were also felt in Indian-administered Kashmir. The Pakistan Meteorological Department initially estimated the earthquake's magnitude at 6.1.
