The shooting at the White House correspondents' dinner has revived strong historical memories, as it occurred at the same venue where Ronald Reagan was shot 45 years ago. Donald Trump was also present at the event and was immediately escorted out of the hall after the gunfire, but he is reported to be in good health.
The 1981 incident took place on March 30, when John Hinckley Jr. shot at Reagan as he was leaving an event at the Washington Hilton Hotel. The former U.S. president survived but was seriously wounded by a bullet that caused severe damage to his chest and lung.
Other individuals were also injured in that attack, including White House Press Secretary James Brady, who suffered severe brain damage and was left with permanent disabilities. For this reason, the latest incident at the same location has significantly heightened concerns and the symbolism of history repeating itself.
