Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Enea Karakaçi, stated that Albania is strengthening its position as a regional leader in renewable energy during his participation in the Energy Ministerial held in Montenegro as part of the Berlin Process.
According to him, the meeting served as an important platform for cooperation among Western Balkan countries, international financial institutions, and private investors. Karakaçi emphasized that Albania remains a "champion" in renewable energy, thanks to auction schemes and growing investments, including photovoltaic projects realized even without state support.
"We were in Montenegro today for the Energy Ministerial regarding the Berlin Process and all the measures that Balkan regional states are taking to align with the European Union. This was a very good forum, with dialogue between international financial institutions, energy ministers, and all private actors wishing to invest in the region.
Once again, all the supportive policies that the Albanian Government has implemented for renewable energy were clearly highlighted. Albania continues to be a champion in renewable energy through all supportive auction schemes, but not only that, also through investments that have already materialized, as in the case of photovoltaic energy, which have been realized without government support and solely through private initiative.
A concern raised by all Western Balkan states is the new carbon tax implemented by the European Union, which means that any non-renewable electricity production in the region's countries will be additionally taxed by the European Union. Here too, this is a very good opportunity for Albania, as a champion of renewable energy in the region, to leverage this potential and increase investments in renewable energy. This European Union policy finds Albania very well-prepared and even in a more competitive process with all other countries," said Minister Enea Karakaçi.
