Two brothers, convicted of murder in Lushnje, have been arrested in Italy. In handcuffs are Artur Mehilli, 60 years old, and Arben Mehilli, 54 years old, who were declared internationally wanted for a crime that occurred in 1999 in Lushnjรซ. They were convicted in 2001 by the Lushnjรซ Court for "premeditated murder," committed in collaboration, as well as for "unauthorized possession of weapons," sentenced to 15 years and 6 months and 16 years and 6 months in prison, respectively. According to investigations, on September 12, 1999, the two brothers killed citizen R. M. with a firearm, motivated by blood feud, after the latter had killed their brother in 1997. After the crime, they fled to Italy using false identities, with which they also obtained residence permits. Their identification was made possible thanks to the use of modern "Facial Recognition" technology, now available to Interpol Tirana, as well as through cooperation with Interpol Rome and coordination by the General Secretariat of Interpol. The operation was carried out by the Criminal Police Department in collaboration with the General Prosecutor's Office and the Fier Police.
