Russia has carried out its heaviest attack on Ukraine this year, leaving at least 17 dead and over 100 injured following a massive wave of assaults on several cities across the country. According to Ukrainian media, Moscow struck with 19 ballistic missiles, 25 cruise missiles, and 659 drones.

Russian forces also targeted critical infrastructure in the city of Chernihiv, causing fires and leaving approximately 6,000 residents without electricity.

"The enemy targeted critical infrastructure in the city. Fires broke out," wrote Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv city military administration, on X.

Following these successive attacks, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated on X that Moscow continues to use terror against the innocent.

"Russia deliberately targeted and killed Ukrainian civilians again tonight. With its army stalled on the battlefield, Moscow continues to use terror against the innocent. Russia wants more war, so our response is more aid to Ukraine, more pressure on Russia, and full accountability for war crimes. Europe is doing its part.

In recent days, Germany and Ukraine have reached a 4-billion-euro arms deal, the United Kingdom has announced its largest-ever drone package, and the Netherlands has committed 200 million euros, among other engagements. For the EU, it is time to unlock the 90-billion-euro credit and move forward with the twentieth sanctions package," she wrote.

The war in Ukraine is now in its fifth year, and there have been several rounds of peace talks, with the U.S. acting as a mediator. However, the process has been stalled since U.S. President Donald Trump shifted his focus to the war in the Middle East.

What Ukraine has consistently proposed is a complete and sustainable ceasefire as the first step toward negotiations for a lasting end to the Russian invasion. But Moscow insists that a peace agreement must be reached first, prompting accusations from Kyiv that Russia is not serious about ending the hostilities.
