A serious incident has shaken Turkey, where an armed individual opened fire at a high school in the province of Şanlıurfa, leaving at least 16 people injured.
According to local media reports, the event occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, April 14. The perpetrator, still not officially identified in the initial moments, used a hunting rifle and fired inside the school premises.
Immediately after the attack, police forces and medical teams arrived at the scene, while special units surrounded the building. In an effort to escape the gunfire, some students, caught in panic, jumped from windows, while the school was urgently evacuated.
The injured received first aid on-site and were then transported to hospitals for further treatment.
According to the provincial governor, Hasan Şıldak, the suspected perpetrator is a former student of the institution, born in 2007, who is then suspected to have taken his own life. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with numerous shots fired inside and outside the building.
Authorities have launched investigations to clarify the circumstances and motives that led to this attack.
