Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the government has already implemented a sustainable mechanism for the annual increase of pensions. During an interview on his podcast "Flasim," he made it known that the increase applied in January of this year will continue at progressive rates in the following years. According to him, this increase will double next January, triple in 2028, quadruple in 2029, and reach fivefold in 2030. Rama also emphasized that work is underway to build a second pillar of the pension system, which will function as additional support alongside the current scheme. This approach aims to create a new opportunity for financial security for citizens in the future. According to the presented concept, every employee who chooses to contribute a symbolic amount from their salary, for example, 1 euro per month, will benefit from an equal contribution from the state or from the employer in the private sector. In this way, individual savings will double and gradually create a personal fund, which will be added to the pension received from the basic scheme. The Prime Minister underlined that this is not a uniquely Albanian innovation, but a model widely used in other countries, which aims to increase economic security for the third age and strengthen the bond between employee and employer. He emphasized that the new scheme will be complementary and will not interfere with the current pension system, but will support and further consolidate it.
