At least 20 people were injured, five of them seriously, after a car crashed into a crowd of participants during a festival in New Iberia, Louisiana, according to a preliminary report from local authorities.
The incident occurred during an event celebrating the Buddhist New Year in Laos, while the suspect has been arrested and investigations are ongoing. Sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Melanchon told Reuters there is no indication that the incident was intentional.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.137%, while the legal limit in most U.S. states is 0.08%.
57-year-old Todd Landry is charged with driving under the influence and causing bodily injury through negligence.
