By the end of this century, the European Union will have 53 million fewer inhabitants than today, representing an 11.7 percent population decline, Eurostat announced. According to the forecast, the population is expected to continue growing over the next three years, peaking from 451 million people today to 453 million in 2029, before gradually falling to 398 million by 2100. The results are based on assumptions of partial convergence in the fertility, mortality, and migration patterns of EU countries.
