In Torovica of Lezha, a crucial road segment connecting the area to Velipoja has been a source of anxiety for residents for years. Massive rock formations hang precariously over the road, endangering the lives of passersby and local inhabitants daily.
Residents report living under constant fear, as rocks have begun to shift and detach from the massif. According to them, every passage on this road poses a real risk, especially for families and vehicles that travel daily on this route, which is also frequented by travelers from Kosovo and North Macedonia.
They painfully recall a tragic event that occurred several years ago, when, due to a rockfall, two brothers and the pregnant wife of one of them lost their lives. For the residents, this is the clearest evidence of the ongoing threat to the area. According to testimonies, authorities have been aware of the situation and have conducted field inspections, but concrete interventions have been lacking for a long time. They emphasize that there are homes in the area and that a tragedy could repeat at any moment.
When asked by Fiks Fare, the Municipality of Lezha acknowledges that the problem is known and persistent. According to its representatives, the intervention of specialized structures has been requested, and a plan for stabilizing the area has been drafted, with dedicated funding from emergency funds.
However, only after Fiks exposed the situation have on-site works begun. Relevant forces have intervened to remove dangerous rocks and stabilize the area. Residents tell Fiks Fare that the situation has already started to improve and express gratitude for the intervention, stressing that for years they had remained unprotected.
