The Albanian government has decided to intervene to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices by approving a regulatory act to reduce the excise tax by 20%.
The decision comes in response to the significant increase in oil prices on international markets, influenced also by recent tensions in the Middle East. According to this act, the excise reduction will be applied when the retail price, determined by the Transparency Board, exceeds set thresholds.
Specifically, the measure stipulates a 20% excise reduction if: the price of diesel exceeds 220 lek per liter; the price of gasoline exceeds 200 lek per liter.
Finance Minister Petrit Malaj stated that this decision aligns with the commitment made by Edi Rama to take concrete measures in support of citizens.
According to him, the intervention aims to cushion the financial impact stemming from international developments, particularly the conflict in Iran and recent fluctuations in global energy markets.
The regulatory act will remain in effect until the international situation stabilizes, while the government emphasizes its continued commitment to protecting the economy and the state budget during this challenging period.
