The Special Prosecution Office has requested that former Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka, be returned to prison. This request from SPAK comes after Koka was released from prison by a decision of the Special Court of Appeal, on the grounds that his pre-trial detention deadlines had expired. This SPAK request demonstrates that the Special Prosecution Office disagrees with the decision of the GJKKO Appeal. However, notification of the appeal for Koka has been impossible through postal service, as the former minister has reportedly left the country for Italy. Koka had previously informed the court that he would undergo heart surgery in Italy. Subsequently, through a public notice dated April 17, the former minister was informed of this matter. It is worth recalling that the former minister was arrested in 2021 in connection with the "incinerators" case, accused of "abuse of office," "money laundering," and "corruption." He was sentenced by decisions that have not yet become final, regarding the incinerator cases in Fier, Elbasan, and Tirana.
