The investigation into the tragic accident that claimed the life of Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, has been concluded by Spanish authorities without any criminal charges being filed against any individual.

According to the decision of the Provincial Court of Zamora, the accident that occurred on July 3, 2025, on the A-52 highway near the Cernadilla area, was caused by a technical defect—specifically, a tire blowout while in motion.

Official data indicates that the Lamborghini vehicle, driven by Jota, lost control during an overtaking maneuver, veered off the road, and subsequently collided with side barriers. Following the impact, the car was engulfed in flames, resulting in the immediate deaths of both brothers.

After analyzing evidence and specialized road accident expertise, the High Court of Justice of Castilla y León decided not to pursue criminal prosecution, finding no elements of negligence or third-party liability.

However, authorities clarified that the closure of the criminal aspect does not preclude the possibility of a civil lawsuit, should the family choose to seek compensation through legal channels.

At the time of the accident, the two brothers were traveling to Santander to catch a ferry to the United Kingdom. Diogo Jota was expected to join Liverpool FC for the pre-season phase, while reports suggest he had avoided air travel due to a recent lung procedure.

The tragic event occurred just days after his marriage to partner Rute Cardoso in Porto. The funeral ceremony was held in Gondomar, where family, friends, and representatives of the English club bid a final farewell to the two brothers.
