Calls for his withdrawal were also joined by Nancy Pelosi, who demanded a full and transparent investigation. The first accusation was published by the San Francisco Chronicle, where a former staff member claimed that Swalwell had made inappropriate sexual comments and sent intimate messages. She also stated that in 2019, she woke up in a hotel room with no clear memories and signs of sexual trauma. Later, CNN reported similar accusations from four other women who had worked for him, including claims of harassment and inappropriate behavior. According to reports, Swalwell's legal team had sent warning letters to some of the accusers. Swalwell has strongly denied the allegations, calling them false and politically motivated. He has stated that he will defend himself with "facts" and, if necessary, take legal action. In a public message, he admitted only to "errors in judgment" in his personal life but denied any legal wrongdoing.
