The University of Tirana has responded regarding the protest of Albanian students in North Macedonia. In its response, the University of Tirana writes that they are seeking the realization of a fundamental right: the use of their native language.
"The University of Tirana expresses full support for the Albanian students in North Macedonia, who are seeking the realization of a fundamental right: the use of their native language in educational and professional processes.
The right to be educated and assessed in one's native language is not a privilege, but an internationally recognized standard and an essential element of real equality in a multilingual society. When students pursue their studies in a specific language, it is a legitimate right that the final professional assessment also be conducted in the same language.
The demand of Albanian students to take state exams in the Albanian language represents a rightful aspiration for equality, dignity, and non-discrimination. Disregarding this principle risks creating unnecessary obstacles in their professional development and undermining trust in state institutions.
The University of Tirana supports every effort aimed at strengthening linguistic rights and guaranteeing equal standards in education and public life. We encourage the relevant institutions, in the spirit of the law and democratic coexistence, to find fair and inclusive solutions. Respecting linguistic diversity is not only a legal obligation but also a value that enriches society and strengthens social cohesion on the path of the region's integration into the European Union! The Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Artan HOXHA," it says in the response.
