Police announced this morning that an individual convicted of domestic violence has died at QSUT, after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit following cardiac arrest. This is the fifth case reported by the Directorate of Prisons since the end of January this year involving the loss of life of inmates, primarily linked to health issues. Just two days earlier, on April 3, another pre-trial detainee, Medat Spahiu, died in the same department due to a pulmonary embolism. Meanwhile, on March 30, life-sentenced prisoner Hysni Qamil Repaj was urgently transferred to the Korçë Regional Hospital but could not survive after a sudden deterioration in his health condition. Earlier, on March 20, a 41-year-old arrested for a minor criminal offense passed away in the Security Block in Tirana. Authorities stated that natural causes are suspected, but investigations are ongoing. The first case in this series dates back to January 25, when a 20-year-old youth died in Shkodër Prison. Five deaths in such a short period have raised suspicions about what is happening in prisons, particularly concerning those suffering from health problems and whether they receive proper medical treatment while serving their sentences. So far, authorities have not provided a comprehensive response linking all these cases, but investigations into each are ongoing. The convicted individual Hajri Ramazan Robi passed away around 05:00 at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center, in the Central Intensive Care Unit, due to cardio-respiratory arrest. April 3 Around 14:10, pre-trial detainee Medat Spahiu died in the Central Intensive Care Unit at QSUT, as a result of a right pulmonary embolism. Around 09:40, life-sentenced prisoner Hysni Qamil Repaj, born on 15.01.1962, native and resident of Shkodër, was urgently accompanied to the premises of the Korçë Regional Hospital. During examination procedures at this hospital, the prisoner's health condition deteriorated, resulting in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite intervention and medical assistance provided, he could not be revived, resulting in loss of life. Around 05:45, on "Mine Peza" Street, at the Security Block, citizen B. P., 41 years old, arrested on 18.03.2026 for the criminal offense "Attempted Theft," passed away, suspected due to natural causes. Work is underway to clarify the circumstances of the case. The General Directorate of Prisons informs the public that at Shkodër Prison, citizen Nicolae Ionnut Erion Deliver, born on 23.03.2005, native of Romania and resident of Shkodër, has passed away.
