Officially, the duties of the President of Kosovo have been transferred to the Speaker of Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, as Vjosa Osmani's term ended today. The ceremonial handover of duties was held in the President's Cabinet today at 16:00. During the ceremony, Haxhiu presented flowers to Osmani. In a Facebook post, Osmani emphasized that this was not just her journey. "These five years were not the story of a single person. They have been our shared journey. With people from every field who believed in Kosovo. Who worked, contributed, and pushed forward ideas and opportunities for our citizens. Thank you for standing with us and for our eternal Kosovo," she wrote. Osmani, who assumed the role with the support of Vetëvendosje, did not secure a second term, despite having publicly expressed her desire to continue in the position. The issue of electing a president has been at the center of political discussions since the elections at the end of last year. However, it remains unresolved to this day. Deputies have until the end of this month to elect a new head of state; otherwise, the country will go to new elections, as decided by the Constitutional Court. The deadlock is primarily due to a lack of sufficient numbers for candidates. Vetëvendosje, after its two proposals, Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku, does not have the necessary deputies to pass the election process. The opposition, on the other hand, has called for a consensus candidate and has refused to vote for VV's candidates. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced upcoming meetings with the leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo in the coming days.
