Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has warned that any further restrictions by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to "unpredictable economic consequences," emphasizing the importance of fully restoring freedom of movement in this strategic area.

Speaking before Parliament, Meloni described the Strait of Hormuz as the "most critical point" within the framework of the agreement between the United States and Iran.

"It is necessary to fully restore freedom of movement in the Strait of Hormuz, and this should not be subjected to any restrictions, as has happened recently," she stated.

The Italian Prime Minister also added that if the crisis in Iran escalates, the European Union should consider the possibility of temporarily suspending the Stability and Growth Pact, a mechanism that regulates the public finances of member countries.
