The Speaker of the Assembly and Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has announced that Friday, April 24, 2026, has been declared a national day of mourning in Kosovo, in honor of the life and contributions of academician Rexhep Qosja, who passed away at the age of 89.
In her public response, Haxhiu emphasized that this decision is an expression of respect and gratitude for Qosja's figure, describing him as one of the most important personalities who gave Albanian culture knowledge, work, and authority.
"By declaring a national day of mourning, we honor a distinguished figure who left deep traces in national thought and culture," she stated.
