Luca Spada, a 27-year-old from Meldola, has been arrested as part of an investigation by the Forlì Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Enrico Cieri, into the deaths of several elderly individuals within a few months, during or immediately after ambulance transport. Spada, under investigation for intentional homicide, was an employee of the Red Cross, later suspended, and a driver of an emergency vehicle. A pre-trial detention order from the preliminary investigations judge was executed against him. The Carabinieri are conducting the investigation. At the beginning of March, news spread that the Prosecutor's Office was investigating a series of deaths under suspicious circumstances. The initial charge was multiple homicide. The suspect, while claiming to be completely uninvolved and "shocked" by the accusations, immediately chose to cooperate with the authorities. "They were seriously ill people," Spada stated in recent days, declaring his innocence. "Not all of them died in the ambulance, only one. The others died days after being transported."
