The General Directorate of Prisons has accepted Durim Bami's request to be transferred from the "313" pre-detention center to Fushë Krujë prison. The request was made several weeks ago but has now been approved by the new director, Adriatik Kupi, after being refused by the previous director, Klevis Qose.
Bami requested the transfer one day after his extradition from Dubai, claiming that in the "313" prison in Tirana, as well as in the prisons of Peqin and Reç in Shkodër, there are individuals who pose a threat to his life.
According to the request, Fushë Krujë prison was considered the most suitable alternative. Additionally, his lawyer, Ilir Murati, raised claims that Bami's health condition was not good, that he was held in unsuitable conditions, and that he experienced continuous stress due to the presence of individuals arrested for murder and involvement in structured criminal groups.
Bami had been declared internationally wanted after the Special Court imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for the criminal offenses "Providing conditions and material means to commit murder," "Structured criminal group," "Cultivation of narcotic plants," and "Commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or structured criminal group."
He is accused of having sought the elimination of former socialist deputy Arben Ndoka, while the latter and other members of criminal groups also wanted Bami dead. Ervis Martinaj had offered 1 million euros for his elimination. Meanwhile, in February 2021, Bami, together with Endrit Dokle and Marklen Haka, planned the murder of Tori Xhecuka and Erigers Mihasi, a friend of Ervis Martinaj who was killed in Tirana.
According to SPAK, Durim Bami directed and financed a group that cultivated cannabis in Nikël and Bubq during December 2019–July 2020 and again in September 2020, managing the entire activity. He was assisted by former RENEA officer Altin Morina (arrested) and other unidentified individuals, who provided insider information and avoided police checks.
