A 22-year-old in Brisbane, Australia, has been committed for trial facing more than 100 charges of sexual offenses against minors. Adding weight to his case is the fact that the accused is the son of a well-known judge in his country, Mark Bamberry.
The accused, Cooper Mitchell Bamberry, appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court, where 129 charges brought against him during 2025 were examined.
According to the prosecution, the charges include one count of rape, two counts of sexual intercourse with a minor, dozens of counts of indecent treatment of a child, and using the internet to groom minors. He is also charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation materials, as well as involving minors in the creation of such materials.
During the hearing, defense lawyer Adam Guest consented to the case proceeding to trial after the testimony of one witness. The hearing was partly held behind closed doors, while a witness gave evidence via video link and was granted special witness status.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Stephen Courtney asked the accused to respond to the charges, but he declined to enter a plea at this stage.
The case is expected to be transferred to the Queensland District Court, where the trial will take place on a date yet to be determined. Meanwhile, Bamberry will remain in custody pending the continuation of the legal proceedings.
