A tragic event has shaken Turkey, where an eighth-grade student opened fire at a middle school in Kahramanmaraş province, killing at least 9 people and injuring 13 others.

According to authorities, the victims include other students, while six of the injured are in intensive care, three of them in critical condition. The attacker, who is believed to have used a weapon belonging to his father, a former police officer, is among the dead.

Governor Mukerrem Unluer stated that the student had hidden the weapons in a backpack and entered two classrooms, where he opened fire randomly.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci confirmed the casualty count and the serious condition of some of the injured.

"We regret to report nine deaths... and 13 injured. Six of them are currently in intensive care, three of whom are in critical condition," said Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci.

The incident comes just one day after another gun attack occurred at a school in Şanlıurfa, where a former student injured 16 people before killing himself following a confrontation with police.
