The Chief Inspector General, Dashnor Sula, held a meeting this Wednesday with the chief inspectors of the Korça district. After the meeting, Sula made a statement to the media, expressing concern over the presence of expired and counterfeit products in the market, while urging citizens to report any cases. The Chief Inspector warned of the start of surprise actions from tomorrow, where supermarkets and production lines will be inspected. "If you had the opportunity to share this information you have, you should address it on the platform; we respond immediately. Tomorrow, we as the general inspectorate, in some undeclared and uninformed subjects by the local inspectorates here, will go together with them for inspection. We have selected both supermarkets and production lines, to conduct a surprise, urgent, lightning inspection to see if there are violations or not," he said. Sula denied that the inspectorates are dysfunctional but acknowledged the issues, citing as an example the recent case in Shkodër, where 15 disciplinary measures were taken against inspectors, including 10 dismissals from duty, after allowing the entry of corn with aflatoxin B1. "No, they are not dysfunctional. There are issues without a doubt. I am on my 69th day at the head of the inspectorate and I inform you that perhaps a decision two days ago, when the general inspectorate took 15 disciplinary measures for the Shkodër case, 10 of which are dismissals from duty of inspectors, due to the entry of corn with aflatoxin B1, which is harmful even to animals. I have set them, and for every reported case, we will punish them. Every administrative measure appealed by the subject has two paths: either the measure imposed by the inspection remains in force, or this measure is annulled but with one condition, in case of injustice, an administrative measure begins for the inspector," he said. Regarding the food market, where specialists have raised alarms about citizen poisoning, Sula expressed that product traceability is of utmost importance. "Very right. I believe you have followed these two months since Mrs. Gjylameti is at the head of AKU and I as the Chief Inspector General have started a wave of inspections that is yielding results. Last week in Shkodër, it was possible to block 110 quintals. I appeal again: it has much to do with civic culture, meaning their follow-up and vigilance to report to the inspectorate. Traceability is very important, and for this reason, systems are being prepared that will track product traceability, because out of 5 products in Albania, 3 or 4 are imported, entering through customs points like Kapshtica, Qafë Thana, and other points. Through traceability, it will be known how it entered, what safety certificates it has, and the time frame," said Sula. He was also asked about the burned building in Tirana, regarding the investigations into the causes of the fire. The Chief Inspector said that the General Inspectorate has made all findings available to the Prosecutor's Office. "I have issued three orders: an urgent order on the day the event occurred, where IKMT and the State Industrial Inspectorate, which oversees gas containers, cylinders, pressure vessels, and electrical energy, have been engaged. We are in close cooperation with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and have made all our findings available to them. Yesterday, 5 elevators in other buildings were certified and put into operation, but I guarantee an official response very soon. I have also signed two other orders for the State Industrial Inspectorate: one important order for detailed inspection if in these environments there are pressure vessels that endanger citizens' lives or subjects that may use high-power gas cylinders. Another important order for IKMT relates to the methodology to be followed for new buildings, which are built or under construction, for the materials used, which must be certified, entered through customs points, and be controllable. Those building owners who have obtained construction permits and do not complete all works themselves but delegate them to unidentified and irresponsible subcontractors, while the completion act is signed only by the permit owner, this is a practice that can lead to abuses for cost reduction," expressed Sula.
