The 2026 World Cup is the sporting event everyone is eagerly awaiting, yet controversies have already begun. The cause for debate is ticket prices, which can easily be described as "insanity." FIFA's official resale portal is listing tickets for the July 19 final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for nearly $2.3 million each. Four seats in the lower section behind the goal are on sale for $2,299,998.85. The figures are staggering but fully in line with how the system operates. FIFA does not impose price caps on the secondary market, although it retains a 15% commission from both the seller and the buyer. If sold at that price, the international body would collect approximately $690,000 per single ticket. Other seats in the same section go for up to $207,000, while on the third level, prices drop to $138,000 or even $23,000. The "cheapest" tickets start at just under $11,000. The decision not to set a price limit was motivated by a desire to curb ticket sales on external platforms. However, the obvious side effect remains, as attending the final becomes a privilege for the few, with prices marking a new record in the history of the tournament.
