Arben Llangozi, the lawyer of Mayor Flamur Golemi, responded today on "Breaking" regarding the accusations raised about HIV/AIDS infections in the municipality of Gjirokastër. The lawyer explained that the whole situation started after a citizen from Gjirokastër spread this news, which he considers false, and then it was misused by political figures. According to the lawyer, the mayor underwent the examination on December 20, 2025, at the request of doctors in Greece, as he had other tests done because he was not feeling well health-wise. "The document is authentic and was published by the mayor himself to quell all these unfounded accusations and political attacks. Here we not only have slander, but this false news has affected the entire city of Gjirokastër. The situation has caused panic because citizens have contact with these people. Many citizens, out of panic, are seeking medical services elsewhere. Although the document lacks a stamp and signature, it is from a clinic; this is how they issue it according to Greek legislation. We cannot ask them to do it according to Albanian law when the clinic is in Ioannina. Mr. Golemi is open to verification. Here we also have discrimination due to a health condition, and we have caused public panic with this slander. If we assume it is true, such a person cannot be prejudged. This virus is contracted through dental procedures, through medical treatments; now can we judge a person for a virus? The aim of this news was to attack the mayor, and that is why it appeared as if 18 employees were also infected. We have unverified data, slander aimed at misinformation and creating panic. The mayor is ready to undergo any analysis, but he has already done it through Greek institutions. We are ready for not only the mayor but also these employees, to identify those 18 people and subject them to tests. This matter requires investigation. There are individuals within the municipality who have malicious intentions toward the mayor, and they spread this news. The mayor underwent a series of examinations on December 20, 2025, because his health condition was not good, and at that time, doctors advised him to also undergo this test. Later, this information came out and was misused. The false news was initially published by a citizen of Gjirokastër and then misused by political figures. Today, the mayor is in good health. Mr. Golemi is open to publishing any data requested. If it is true, we will ask for a public apology, but the truth is that there is no such thing. No one should be prejudged." - said the lawyer.
