The High Inspector of Justice, Artur Metani, conducted an official visit to the United States of America, where he held meetings at the Department of Justice and with representatives of institutions within the American justice system.
During the visit, Metani discussed the role of the High Inspector of Justice in Albania and the importance of an independent yet accountable judiciary as a key element for the functioning of democracy.
At the OPDAT office, Mr. Metani met with Deputy Director George Huber and Regional Director for Europe Pragna Soni. During these meetings, the High Inspector of Justice was accompanied by OPDAT Resident Legal Advisor in Albania, Dave Backman, as well as by inspector Mr. Periand Teta.
Discussions focused on raising integrity and professionalism standards within Albania's judicial system, as essential elements in the fight against organized crime and corruption. In this context, the High Inspector of Justice shared perspectives on the importance of strengthening inspection and accountability mechanisms for judges and prosecutors, as well as the need to guarantee high ethical and professional standards.
Metani also emphasized that the functioning of an independent, impartial, and accountable judicial system constitutes a key element in ensuring the rule of law and strengthening democracy in Albania. The interlocutors acknowledged the progress achieved and expressed readiness to continue support and inter-institutional cooperation in the direction of technical assistance, as well as the exchange of best practices.
These meetings represent an important step in deepening international cooperation and advancing reforms in the justice system, aiming to increase public trust and strengthen justice institutions in Albania.
