He was hailed as the hero of the incident after being seen climbing stairs right next to the flames to save the life of a woman, even placing his helmet on her head. Firefighter Jonus Murataj recounted to Top Channel the moment he battled the flames to rescue the elderly woman trapped inside the burning apartment. He expressed that the lady refused to leave the house, but he convinced her to come out, saving her life. Murataj also explained why he placed his helmet on the elderly woman's head as they were descending from the fire truck ladder. "Upon receiving the fire signal, the Kinostudio fire station was the first to arrive at the scene. Upon arrival, the service commander, Gazment Çobani, announced the danger of the fire spreading. Thanks to the intervention of the fire service and operational forces, such as the army, ladder trucks, and all services that enabled the extinguishing of other sections. This was the operational intervention of the firefighting forces, the distribution of forces, because from the other side it was the same situation. So we created a cutoff zone to prevent the fire from spreading to other sections, as the main reasons were the residents inside, evacuation, and extinguishing the flames. This made firefighting very complicated for us. From the first intervention of the Kinostudio fire station, at the moment of arrival, the entire facade of the building was involved. At the scheduled time, there were also winds that favored the spread of the flames. There are many factors. Engineers can explain it more accurately. I was the operation leader and had distributed the forces for firefighting. Additional forces we had notified were on their way. I was forced to go because my daughter notified me and said: 'We have mother inside, she is on the fifth floor.' I had to climb up. Upon climbing there, I found the lady inside. She was asphyxiated and almost terrified. At the moment I told her: 'Come on, we need to move from here'... the lady had heart-related health problems and told me: 'Let me burn here with the whole house.' I put my hand on her neck and said: 'Come on, we will extinguish the fire inside the house, and the house will be functional for you again.' I placed the helmet on her for a reason. From the heights, there were many falling metal parts and bricks due to excessive heat. I had to place it on her. During evacuation from the fire truck ladder, the resident is not specialized to descend. I was forced to remove the helmet and bring her down safe and sound to the ambulance. The fire sources are completely isolated. There is no danger of spreading to other sections. Work is being done to clarify the damage by investigators, in cooperation with fire experts, to reach a final conclusion. The lady is safe and sound. We have the functional duty of saving people's lives," said Murataj.
