Today, at the beginning of the parliamentary session, MP Fatmir Mediu emphasized the importance of addressing national security issues collegially and not as an exclusive matter of the ministry or the prime minister. He called on the president to urgently convene the National Security Council and also sought support from the parliament speaker for this initiative. Mediu highlighted the tense situation with Iran, recalling that Albania has severed diplomatic relations and that the embassy's warnings are not only related to American citizens but also to Albanian citizens, adding that it is a mistake to think that NATO membership status guarantees protection in every situation. "I want to remind the prime minister that national security issues are not the exclusive domain of the ministry or the prime minister. It is the National Security Council. I ask the president to urgently convene the National Security Council. I also ask you, Mr. Speaker, to request that the president convene the National Security Council. First, Albania has an open conflict with Iran; it has severed diplomatic relations with Iran. Even yesterday's embassy statement is not just a call for American citizens, but also for Albanians. It is idiotic to think that, being a NATO member, we are guaranteed for everything," Mediu stated.
