A bear cub caused concern in an Albany, New York neighborhood after climbing a tree and remaining there for several hours, prompting intervention from police and wildlife experts.

According to local media, including the New York Post, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the cub climbed a tree near a two-story residence. It stayed in the same spot even after sunrise, leading residents to notify authorities due to concerns for the safety of the animal and the area.

Police forces arrived at the scene in collaboration with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, aiming to plan a safe operation to bring the bear down and return it to its natural habitat in the Catskill Mountains.

Authorities set up a protective net and padding beneath the tree to prevent injuries in case of a fall. The cub was also given a tranquilizer injection to calm it, but its effects were delayed for several hours.

During the operation, the animal continued to move along branches and even climbed higher. Later, a branch broke, and the cub gradually lost its balance, first falling onto a lower branch and then into the net set up by rescuers.

Authorities emphasized that such incidents may increase, as bears, after emerging from winter lethargy, seek food and often approach populated areas.
