U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Italy for not assisting in the situation with Iran, as well as Pope Leo XIV following his comments on the war. In an interview with "Corriere della Sera," Trump addressed Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, emphasizing that he thought she was brave to act. "Do Italians like the fact that your prime minister is not giving us any help to secure oil?" Trump asked, adding: "Do people like her? I can't imagine it. I am shocked by her. I thought she was brave, but I was wrong." When asked if he had spoken with Meloni, he said: "No. She simply says Italy does not want to get involved. Even though Italy gets its oil from there, even though America is very important to Italy, she does not think Italy should get involved. She thinks America should do the work for it." According to him, it is unacceptable that she is not concerned about Iran having nuclear weapons and that it could blow Italy away in two minutes. "That is what is unacceptable, because she doesn't care if Iran has a nuclear weapon and would blow Italy away within two minutes if it had the chance. She is not the same person anymore, and Italy will never be the same country again. Immigration is killing Italy and all of Europe." Trump also reiterated that Europe is "destroying itself from within" with its immigration and energy policies. "They pay the highest energy costs in the world and are not even prepared to fight for the Strait of Hormuz, from where they get it. They depend on Donald Trump to keep it open," Trump added. When asked if he had requested Italy to use mine-layers, the American president said: "I asked them to send whatever they wanted, but they don't want to because NATO is a paper tiger." Regarding Pope Leo and his call for peace, Trump claims that the Pope does not understand that Iran poses a nuclear threat. "He doesn't understand and shouldn't talk about war because he has no idea what is happening. He doesn't understand that 42,000 protesters were killed in Iran last month." He was also asked if he is disappointed by Orban's loss: "He was a friend of mine. It wasn't my choice, but he was my friend, a good man. He did a good job with immigration. He didn't let people come and destroy his country like Italy did."
