A shocking incident that stirred public opinion in the United States has returned to the spotlight, as Eric Leif Jordahl, now 26, has been found guilty of murdering and cannibalizing his mother, Rosalie Johnson, in July 2020.
According to court documents, the incident occurred at the family home near the lake in Big Lake, Minnesota. The young man's father had alerted the police after returning home and finding his son covered in blood in the garage.
Investigations revealed that the 62-year-old woman, who also served as a member of the Big Lake City Council, was attacked in the residence and died as a result of the injuries sustained.
In 2021, Jordahl was initially declared mentally incompetent to stand trial, but later regained legal capacity, and the proceedings resumed in 2024. His lawyers argued that he should be considered not guilty by reason of severe mental illness.
Judge Karen Schommer found him guilty on all charges, including first-degree murder, which carries a potential life sentence in the U.S.
The decisive hearing is scheduled for Monday, where the court will determine whether he will serve his sentence in prison or be committed to a specialized mental health institution.
