An Indonesian fisherman made an unusual discovery when, instead of fish, his net caught a suspected Chinese-origin submarine drone in one of the most sensitive military zones of the Indo-Pacific region.

The incident occurred near the Lombok Strait, a strategic maritime corridor between the islands of Bali and Lombok. According to international media, the fisherman noticed a cylindrical object while working at sea and, suspecting its nature, transported it to shore and notified the authorities.

The recovered device measures approximately 3.7 meters in length and 0.7 meters in diameter, with markings identified as belonging to the Chinese corporation "China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation" and inscriptions in Chinese.

After examination, local authorities ruled out the presence of explosives or radioactive materials, emphasizing that the object poses no immediate danger. It is suspected that the drone is used for underwater surveillance and the collection of strategic data, such as seabed composition, currents, and acoustic conditions.

The Lombok Strait is considered one of the few passages allowing the transit of submarines at great depths, making it a key point for the military balance between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. For this reason, the area is continuously monitored by countries such as the United States and Australia.
