A shocking story is being investigated between Italy and Egypt following the death of 27-year-old Erika Squillace, who passed away on August 20, 2025, in a hospital in Alexandria, just weeks after marrying her Egyptian husband. Her mother, Tiziana Quattrocchi, has filed a criminal complaint, accusing her son-in-law of severe negligence and decisions that, she claims, cost her daughter's life. She says Erika had traveled to Egypt to meet her husband's family while having suspicions of a possible pregnancy, though it was not yet fully medically confirmed.
According to the mother's testimony, after a medical visit in Egypt, Erika was prescribed a strong medication to terminate a suspected pregnancy. She alleges the drug was administered at home and in an incorrect dosage, leading to an immediate deterioration in her daughter's health.
The 27-year-old's condition worsened day by day, while family members claim hospital assistance was delayed and that instead of an urgent response, there were unjustifiable delays. Erika was later transferred to intensive care in Alexandria but did not survive.
Italian authorities have seized the young woman's phone and launched verifications to reconstruct her final days. According to Italian media, an autopsy is also expected for further forensic examinations. The investigations aim to clarify whether this involves fatal negligence or specific criminal responsibility.
