U.S. President Donald Trump was urgently evacuated from an evening event with accredited White House journalists following reports of an armed individual nearby. Dinner participants hid under tables as noises resembling gunshots were heard near the hall where the event was being held at the Washington Hilton hotel. Foreign media report that Trump was immediately escorted out of the hall by Secret Service agents. Shortly after, senior administration officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, were also evacuated by their security details. After a few chaotic moments, guests emerged from under the tables and began to grasp the situation. Members of the White House press pool accompanying the president reported hearing Secret Service agents say that an armed individual had been arrested. The BBC cannot independently verify this information. Several hundred people were locked down for an extended period in the main hall of the Washington Hilton. "FBI Director Kash Patel was sitting next to me," says BBC correspondent Bernd Debusmann Jr. An agent climbed over several tables to speak with him before quickly evacuating him from the venue. The "White House Pool" is a small team of journalists, photographers, and technicians covering the president daily. It is reported that Robert Kennedy Jr. was seen limping, while Jeanine Pirro was hurriedly escorted through the press area. The journalist says he heard several loud bangs and that the Secret Service removed journalists from the hall with weapons drawn. He adds that they were pushed back as agents shouted, "Gunshots."
