According to a report by Corriere della Sera, another diplomatic clash has been recorded between Russia and Italy, after Russian television presenter Vladimir Soloviev made harsh and offensive statements about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Soloviev, known for his pro-Kremlin stance and previously decorated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, used sharp and vulgar language during a television broadcast, directly attacking the head of the Italian government with words that have been deemed unacceptable and offensive in Italy. According to Corriere della Sera, the presenter described Meloni with heavy political and personal terms, accusing her of political betrayal and using language considered propagandistic and offensive. He went further by linking her to international policy decisions and her alliances with the West. The reaction from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was immediate, summoning the Russian ambassador in Rome for explanations and expressing an official protest against the statements. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani publicly declared solidarity with the Prime Minister and condemned the language used on Russian television, considering it unacceptable in diplomatic relations. For her part, Meloni reacted by describing the attack as part of political propaganda, emphasizing that Italy is not guided by external pressures and will continue to pursue its national interest. According to the report, the incident comes at a time when relations between Rome and Moscow have deteriorated since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022. Since then, the two countries have exchanged diplomatic expulsions and multiple verbal clashes. Among the mentioned cases are mutual expulsions of diplomats, as well as previous incidents that have involved accusations of espionage and strong statements from high-ranking officials of both countries.
